Ginny was born in Dayton, Ohio, but by the time she was two, her parents had moved to Florida and from there to other locations in the South. 

She earned her BS in Biology from the University of Southern Mississippi and her Master’s and Doctorate from the University of Louisiana, Monroe.  She continued her education at the University of St. Louis, the University of Cincinnati and the University of West Georgia.

Ginny has taught at the middle and high school levels in three states; served as a middle school counselor and operated a private counseling and testing company, but the majority of her work has been at the University level. She was Director of Counseling and Handicapped Services and adjunct professor at ULM (previously Northeast Louisiana University) and Chair of the Secondary Education Department, Director of the North Alabama Teacher Exchange and Director of Science in Motion at Athens State University.

While at Athens State University she served on review teams for Teacher Certification (NCATE) and the Alabama State Department of Education. She has been involved in a number of Civic organizations including serving as Chair of the United Way Annual Giving Campaign in Monroe, Louisiana, the Association of Junior Leagues International in Louisiana, Texas and Alabama and the National Federation of Republican Women.

Retiring from full-time teaching has provided more opportunities to pursue volunteer interests in local and International Missions, First Baptist Church of Troy and other organizations.  She has served on the Boards of the United Way of Ouachita Parish, the Red Cross of Limestone County, Sav a Life Troy, the Alabama Federation of Republican Women, Pike County Republican Women and currently the Johnson Center for the Arts.

Having previously served as a Docent at the Masur Museum of Art in Monroe, Louisiana, she was eager to get involved at the Johnson Center for the Arts upon moving to Troy in 2008.

It is indeed a privilege and an honor to serve with the wonderful Staff, Board of Directors and volunteers at the Johnson Center for the Arts. The JCA is indeed a treasure to Pike County. Adults can revel in the different media of artistic expression and view works which broaden their personal experiences. Students can experience the Arts through dance and drama classes, a visit to the Center to see “their” school’s Christmas tree during the holidays, taking an Art class or a field trip. The goal is to expand experiences and enhance their awareness of potential horizons. Along the way, who knows how their lives will be impacted. Perhaps they will find encouragement to stay in school, challenge to pursue their own love of Art and find a related career or have their imagination expanded. 

The Mission of the Johnson Center for the Arts is to provide art education opportunities for the citizens of Troy and Pike County, both young and old.  Stop in for a visit and be amazed at this treasure found on Walnut Street in Troy!
